Dianella Cassa Blue
A small grass like perennial from SE Australia, Dianella caerulea Cassa Blue is a rhizomatous, evergreen perennial with an upright, tufted, compact habit. The glaucous-blue leaves are broadly lance-shaped, with a ‘keel’ and rather rough edges. Delicate, purplish-blue flowers in loose panicles are followed by round, shiny, blue berries. Dianella Cassa Blue is half-hardy, so will survive in the garden in mild areas, except in unusually severe winters; in colder areas, it can be grown in a pot and taken in for the winter. Good in mild, woodland gardens. Easily propagated by division.
